How to troubleshoot and resolve common J2EE PE installation problems

Here we cover J2EE PE installation problems which were commonly reported on J2EE PE forum and Installing forum. If you encounter an issue which is not described here please post it to J2EE SDK forum.

  1. Problem: Installation does not even start. It just gives error "Error: There are no files requiring installation"
  2. Problem: Windows installation hangs after clicking “Next” button on installation directory selection screen
  3. Problem: Installer reports an existing installation in selected installation directory although directory does not contain anything or does not even exist
  4. Problem: My Linux distribution is not on the list of officially supported platforms for J2EE 1.4 PE
  5. Problem: Installer reports insufficient amount of disk space during Solaris 8 installation although there is more than enough space in selected partition
  6. Problem: Intallation process freezes for five minutes and again after I enter admin passwd and port numbers
  7. Problem: Getting "CLI130 Could not create domain, domain1" error
