I started using Java in 1996 as a graduate student at the University of Leeds, England. From there, I have been programming (off and on) using Java but mostly developing Java desktop and mobile applications.
I am currently working as a faculty member of the Department of Computer Science, College of Engineering of the University of the Philippines.
I am one of the project owners of the Java Education & Development Initiative with JP Petines, University Virtual Learning Environment and OpenOffice.org File Viewer. Am also a member of Student Stipends Program, and an observer of the JavaBB and OpenQTJ projects.
I am an Open Source advocate (co-founder of Philippine Linux Users Group), member of the Philippine Medical Informatics Society and an Apple Mac user (moderator of http://www.pinoymac.org).
One of the few Java Champions and also an Apple Distinguished Educator. Also, the first Filipino TED Fellow.
