The Source for Java Technology Collaboration

As the new Java.net infrastructure contains project-level wikis, this main wiki will be shut down in the near future. For wiki page export and general wiki questions please contact the site admin at communitymanager@java.net.
I've been involved with the JavaPlatform since the beginning. It's been a wild ride to see how things have changed. I currently have the following varied projects on java.net.

I also have some jini related projects on java.net as well.

I've got some other projects in flux that are not public here yet. The JiniPlatform and DistributedComputing are what I am most interested and involved in with the Java platform right now. I also have interests in J2ME and embedded/control applications.

Some areas that I have been using Java include:

  • Alarm Isolation Multiplexor using aJ-100. SNMP and telnet management with an FTP server for software and configuration updates.
  • VOIP for Amateur Radio linking through EchoLink (http://javecho.dev.java.net).
  • PSK-31 application for Amateur Radio. I have used JNI here to use a DLL for PSK-31 encode/decode. Wish I had time to write the DSP wares in Java.
  • Kawa IDE lookalike in 100% Java.
  • Perforce (P4Win ) application in 100% Java

I've been using Java for Product development at Cyte Technologies (http://www.cytetech.com) for the past 7 years. Some of the types of projects include:

  • Edge brokering software with a wide range of capabilities. Uses lightweight pub/sub inside a container architecture to let you drop in modules to augment the system.
  • Status Monitoring and Control application. Long before JMX came into being, I had developed an event based status monitoring and control system using a client/server architecture. It has been expanded to use Jini's LUS for many types of capabilities. It also gets data from the brokering system to show realtime displays of data flow.
  • Linux System manager. I've developed a linux system management application that uses Jini 2.0's security model to allow a serviceUI to be downloaded from the linux machine. You can then login as a user defined on the system and manage the portions of the system that you have been given access to via the Java Policy file.
