I'm the new community manager of linux.java.net. I've been putting a roof over my head with computers for a bit more than twenty years. Started out as a mainframe (heard of those, have you?) assembler programmer, moved up the food chain to pl/i and then COBOL (its alive!). Worked in corporate IT, then moved into the software industry with MicroFocus^?, which became Merant, and then was spun off into MicroFocus^? again. After that I worked at Forte Software, which was acquired by SUNW in 1999.

Somewhere along the line I started learning UNIX. For the last year and a half I have been the alleged "Linux specialist" in Sun's Developer Outreach organization. So yes, I know a bit of UNIX, a bit of Linux, and a bit of Java.
