Age: 21
Location: Russian Federation, Obninsk (small town near Moscow)
Bio:
2000-2004 - Moscow State University, computer science department;
since 2004 - Obninsk State Technical University for Nuclear Power Engineering, computer science department
Experience:
Lots of exercise code written during study, mostly in C and C++ under Unix.
Also one year of working as php and pl/sql developer in a software company.
Why Summer of Code:
I've learned java in theory and currently looking for opportuniy to practice my skills. The best choice, I think, would be contributing code to open source community. I looked at LG3D? and found that this project has good perspective and worth spending some time on it.
I've already downloaded lg3d from cvs and played around with it. Now I feel familiar with it, so I won't spend much time learning.
Project Title: 3D Email Client
My Plan:
I want to build an e-mail client that uses full strength of 3d UI. 3d-ness to me is not just new decorations and effects, but a totally new and powerfull tool to ease human's work with computers. This approach involves active use of third axis to represent entities and relationships (e.g. the more important an object is the closer to user it is positioned).
Detailed plan can be made in open community discussion, including UI specialists suggestions.
Even if I'm not accepted, I'd like to contribute, however I won't be able to spend same amount time in this case.
