The New Community Home Page

Trying to capture our ongoing conversation...

Changes

  • stop rotation
  • split tasks and assign permanent owners
  • drop the "current news" bucket
  • top of center panel is based on newsletter content.
  • center pane will be only for news directly related to the community. This includes announcements from community projects but also from external events (like Spec changes) that directly affect the projects in the community. Ideally these items are submitted by the project owners, and we (community leaders) only act as editors.

Still to decide

  • I propose we still keep an automated visible bucket for all RSS feeds so that is always up-to-date, even if we drop the ball on the central panel. BTW, we need to check what is broken with the dates - the order is funny.

  • How to improve our interaction with the community leaders?

Tasks for Community Leaders

  • Newsletter editing
  • Interaction with project owners
  • Approving projects
  • Attending community leaders meeting.

Newsletter

The newsletter runs monthly. We update the front page with portions of the newsletter on a regular basis and then, once a month, we collect all items.

We need somebody to look at how the tools guys are doing this and see if there are lessons to learn, and to try to reuse as much of their stuff as possible.

Newsletter Sections:

  • News from projects
  • Developers highlights
  • Projects highlights
  • Tips (from the project owners)
  • Introduction to new technologies (who will write the articles?)
