MIFOS Project Home MIFOS Wiki Home
Developers go to mifos.sourceforge.net to jump right in.
In General
Mifos doesn't just need code developers - we also need documentation, testing, help refining our UserRequirements, and other tasks which may require a variety of skills, or just some time.
To jump right in, join the ListServ. Joining the ListServ will allow you to observe and participate in the current technical and related discussions about Mifos and determine where you can get involved. Feel free to ask for a project to work on, but we'd also encourage you to figure out for yourself what you'd like to do and what seems to be needed.
Technical Writers
A team of technical writers are essential to the project. You can help us begin.
If you prefer to learn more about the subject before joining, one place for background information is the MifosFaqs.
To jump right in, go to the Documents & files folder and find the current version of the User Manual. Read this pre-release version to become familiar with the User Manual and the Mifos product. Another good source of information about what mifos does are the FunctionalSpecifications.
Eventually, you will need to get in deeper and have hands-on the product in order to contribute to the User Manual. You may access the Mifos software program running on a test server at the Mifos Test Site. Use mifos/testmifos for User Name and Password.
We would love for you to start (or join) a thread in the ListServ on documentation and the User Manual. Eventually the community will build to where coordinated efforts for releasing publications with new versions of the software will be possible.
System Administration
Want to help us run the servers for cruise control, test, etc? See the Infrastructure page, and let us know (via the ListServ I guess) how much time you think you'll have (to be honest, we're not sure how best to involve volunteers in this area, given the need for prompt response for things like servers which malfunction, but it is a potential area of contribution).
Translation
One of the reasons for writing MIFOS as free software is to encourage its translation into whatever human languages are useful. Some of the resources which might be made available in a variety of languages are:
* Pages on this Wiki. One place to start would be writing/translating an introductory page about what MIFOS is.
* The User Manual
* A ListServ, irc channel, web forum, or other online support forum. The key task here is finding people who would want to write to it.
* The messages within the software itself. See MifosLocalization
* Test that MIFOS will allow you to enter text in your preferred language in names and anywhere else in the MIFOS application. If you find problems, report them to the IssueTracker and/or ListServ.
