To mark the one year anniversary of the Javapedia on java.net, Sun Microsystems is hosting a free, one-day workshop on Sunday June 27th, just before the start of JavaOne. Anyone interested in the Javapedia is invited to attend.
The purpose of the workshop is to take stock of where the Javapedia is today and to start to create a vision of where we want it to go. A second goal of the meeting is for Javapedia contributors to meet each other and discuss ways of better working together. And a third goal is to actually work on the Javapedia during the day.
Possible topics to discuss include:
- Statistics on the Javapedia
- What's good about the Javapedia?
- How can we improve it?
- Is there a better way to organize it?
- Features to add:
- featured articles
- missing topics
- contributor spotlight
- Creating a Javapedia Community
- Brainstorming new sections or sister Wikis
- Brainstorming new pages
- Make a page for each project?
- <please add other topics you want to discuss>
The format for the day will be to start with group discussions and then break up into smaller working groups. We'll have a wireless network setup in the meeting room, plus an ethernet hub, so bring your laptops for some hands on work! A pizza lunch will be provided.
Tentative schedule:
| 10:00 - 10:30 | Introductions |
| 10:30 - 1:00 | Discussion: Javapedia Vision, etc. |
| 1:00 - 3:00 | Working groups |
| 3:00 - 4:00 | Wrapup |
If you think you will attend the workshop please add yourself to the list below. Please rsvp so we know how much pizza & drinks to get. We hope to see you there. --- It is ok to attend even if you have not signed up below.

What about a marathon Javapedia update event @J1? Offer free coffee and cookies and a place where people can go work on the Javapedia. On the plus side we would get a lot of entries. On the minus, they might need a fair amount of editing, so we could track the new entries and encourage people at the event to also do editing, not just entry creation.

Great idea, but we didn't have the resources to do so. Maybe next year...
