Eclipse

The Eclipse Platform is a framework for building integrated development environments (IDE). It was started by OTI? (brought into IBM then OpenSourced?) and is now managed by the Eclipse Consortium as an open source project under the CommonPublicLicense. It is implemented in Java and SWT. One particular application of the framework are the Java Development Tools (JDT). JDT add the capabilities of a powerful and modern Java IDE to the Eclipse Platform.

Eclipse is designed to support the developer in many ways, and many developers consider the architecture, design, implementation and documentation of Eclipse to be exemplary.

Discussion about Eclipse

rpg: We want the Javapedia to have a neutral point of view. Being enthusiastic about Eclipse is great, but that should be expressed in a different forum on java.net than this one. Every entry should be neutral.
