Billy Newport joined IBM in 2001 after an international consulting career over the past 13 years. Since joining has worked on the WebSphere application server development team. He lead the development of the following WebSphere features:
- Asynchronous Beans or WorkManager?
- commonj WorkManager?
- WebSphere 6.0 HAManager or high availability manager component
- WebSphere Partition Facility, a component of WebSphere Extended Deployment?
- WebSphere XD ObjectGrid, a component of WebSphere Extended Deployment?
He is currently a Senior Technical Staff Member (STSM) at IBM in Rochester, MN.

Recently, he's also become involved in cars and driving schools and make a LAMP based site called Trackpedia. This site is a combination wiki/forum for hosting content on race tracks around the world and to provide a community portal for drivers who track their cars on those tracks.
