Jobs Posted/Wanted Guidelines & FAQ

Anyone may view the messages in this wiki, but in order to post to this wiki(or any other wiki on java.net), you must be a member of java.net and logged in. Click here to register with java.net. It is free and the only information required is a valid email address.

Note to recruiters: Jobs can be viewed by java.net users worldwide, with a wide range of experience. Please make sure to indicate if and where onsite work is required near the top of your posting, or if possible in the subject. To keep our content current, please date your listing and delete it when the position has been filled. Postings older than 4 weeks will be deleted, but if the position is still available, you are welcome to update the posting date. Finally, make sure you include your contact information.

Note to job-seekers: If you are interested in a position, please contact the recruiter listed in the posting directly for more information.

To post a job or resume:

  1. Go to the appropriate page (JobPostings or ResumePostings) and select the edit link at the bottom of the page.
  2. Add your posting - either a full description of your job or a link to where users can find your job description or resume.
  3. Click on the Preview button to make sure your posting is placed where you want it on the page.
  4. Use your browser's back button to change anything you'd like.
  5. Save when you're done.

Note: If you've never used a wiki before you may want to check out GoodStyle and TextFormattingRules.

To Respond to a Posted Job or Resume:

Send email to the java.net member who posted the job or resume message in the wiki. Any java.net member can be reached via that member's username at dev.java.net. So if fred99 were the poster, you could email fred99@dev.java.net.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is a wiki, and how do I get started?

A: Wikis are community managed web pages - anyone who is registered is at java.net allowed to make changes. They operate on the idea that people will be respectful of the public space, and they work pretty well in that regard. So you can edit your job posting to look however you want it to look, and you can come back and update your posting if something changes. You can also make a new wiki page using wiki-words (bunching two capitalized words together LikeThis). When you save the page where you put the wiki-word a little question mark pops up at the end of the word. If you click on that a new blank page pops up that you can add content to. So you could put a simple job description on the main page, and then use a wiki word like MyJobDescription, and then put the complete details on the new page if you want. Of course, you can always leave an email or a link to another site as well.

Q: Can I put html tags in my job posting?

A: Yes, you can put simple tags in your job posting. Wikis support html, but you will probably find wiki text formatting to be easier to use. See TextFormattingRules.

Q: Can I edit my message after it is posted?

A: Yes, any logged in member of java.net can edit the wiki at any time.

Q: Is this supposed to be a real jobs board?

A: This is a pilot jobs/resumes wiki to guage the interest in having a more fully functional jobs forum associated with java.net. It is also a place to redirect the employers and recruiters who email java.net staff with pleas to help them find java developers once a week or so.

Q: Who is going to see my job posting or resume?

A: The java.net site is open to the public, whether you login or not. We will give periodic mentions of this pilot jobs wiki on www.java.net, and there will be a permanent link to it in the java-net project.

Q: How is this wiki different from the Help Wanted forum?

A: The Help Wanted forum is explicitly for developers who want to volunteer their time to work on a java.net project. This wiki is for developers who are seeking jobs that pay, and for recruiters and employers who are seeking developers to hire.

Q: How do I report abuse or inappropriate postings?

A: Since the wiki can be edited by anyone, you may delete a truly inappropriate posting, or email the Community Manager.

Q: What will happen to posters who abuse this wiki?

A: Their java.net account will almost certainly be deleted, at the discretion of the Community Manager.
