Subject #102 - 3D Desktop Games - A Collection of Solitaire Card-Games

Overview

Could there be a successful Desktop environment without a nice Collection of Solitaire card-games? Would Windows 3.0 have been a bestseller if it hadn't Klondike Solitaire bundled with it? My goal is to great a collection of Solitaire card-games for Project Looking Glass, a feature that is critical to it's success on the desktop. smile Thanks to the 3D capabilities of LG3D? some nice animations for moving and drawing of cards should be possible and please the player's eye. smile

Deliverables

  • Card-Game Framework A nice little framework, that allows the easy cration of different card-games, including the possibilty to define decks of cards and display them in various ways. It will also provide methods and animations for moving cards from one deck to another another and drawing of cards.
  • Some Solitaire Games The collection should at least include 4-5 different Solitaire games attracting different players. I haven't really thought about which it will be, but the classic Klondike including the Vegas-mode known from Microsoft Solitaire will be included. The forums will most likely give me some ideas for games to implement, if not, I will select some from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_solitaire_card_games. The more time is left at the end of the project, the more games I will implement.
  • Documentation The framework will be well documented to ease creation of other card-games, not limeted to Solitaire games. The rules of the different games will of course be explained in detail and be available through an in-game help.

Approximate Schedule

  • (1-2 weeks) Get to know the LG3D? environment and write some trial programs exploring the various aspects of LG3D?.
  • (1 week) Design the card-game framework. Evaluate the neccassary classes and methods. This will be continued as different games are implemented..
  • (3-4 weeks) Create the card-game framework and implement a prototype of the classic Klondike Solitaire at the same as a test for the framework.
  • (1 week each) Add 3-4 other games, depending on time remaining, to the collection and tune/extend the framework as neccessary.
  • (1 week) Polish off the code and write documentation. Create release candidate.
  • (Time Remaining) Implement further games and integrate them into the relaese if they are mature enough.
