Chris Bryant, Project Manager for Java and GNU/Linux
Contact: [ cabryant at mednet.ucla.edu ]
Chris Bryant's Blog http://weblogs.java.net/blog/chrisbryant/
Communities: [ Linux ] [ OpenJDK ] [ Java User Groups ]
With more than ten years experience in the Open Source and Linux
communities, I have observed many levels of software development
organization. As Software Configuration Manager for five major California
companies, I took my experience with such tools as the Concurrent
Versions System (CVS), and the GNU Bug Tracking System (GNATS),
and developed several highly efficient SCM systems.
These SCM processes were written in compliance to such standards as
the "CMMI-SW, V1.1, CMMI for Software Engineering", "IEEE/EIA Std
12207.0-1996, Standard for Information Technology - Software life cycle
processes", and "MIL-STD-973, Military Standard, Configuration
Management". This experience developed in me a strong desire to
contribute to the advancement of quality in the technology industries.
My core belief is that the future of technology depends upon the promotion
of quality in the processes that lead to product development.
Now, I'm working at UCLA Health System managing development projects
using J2EE technology and meeting the needs of XML-based standards
such as HL7 (Health Level 7). UCLA is as diverse as it is complex. In
addition to its main campus and education extensions, UCLA has several hospitals
and medical centers. At the heart of all of this is an information technology group
comprised of many technical departments that keep the medical and education
servers and applications running smoothly. The key component to much of this
technology is Sun Microsystems Java. To further this experience, I created and maintain
the UCLA Java User Group,
UCLA JUG. The UCLA JUG was created to provide
a common interface for the many groups responsible for satisfying campus and
medical computing needs with the Java programming language and
Sun Microsystems applications.
